  • Tenders are invited for Consultancy for the Alternative Economic Livelihood Project Under the EU funded Spotlight initiatives, Plan International Liberia and the UN WOMEN are working in collaboration to decrease FGM practice in Liberia by providing FGM traditional practitioners (referred to as zoes) with access to alternative income and empower them to become change agents towards improving the lives of young women and girls in Liberia. The project is directly responding to activities under the provision of an Alternative Economic Livelihood for female Zoes and the establishment of a simple rite of passage program for women and girls without cutting /FGM in 5 spotlight counties as part of the Spotlight Initiative in Liberia. The 5 geographic focus of the programme are; Lofa, Nimba, Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado and Grand Gedeh Counties. The aim of this Programme is to support the government of Liberia to achieve specific development outcomes relative to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) by strengthening capacities of Civil Society Organization to engage communities and FGM practitioners from a human rights based approach using a culturally sensitive methodology; knowledge and skills of 300 FGM practitioners in basic literacy and numeracy, business planning, innovative agriculture smart best practice. village savings loan association including the provision of small business revolving grant that enables FGM practitioners increase their household income to dissuade from the practice of FGM/C. 1. Community sensitization to provide both sufficient and appropriate new information to stimulate contemplation about a change, and to create sufficient familial and social support to prepare individuals, families and communities to actually act by making the change in attitude and behavior towards the abandonment of FGM/C. 2. Seclusion and training to accommodates women and girls in a privacy and provides them with formal instruction on family life skills, community values and sexual reproductive health rights. In addition to the formal sessions, informal discussions will be held in the evenings during which the women and girls are taught about the positive aspects of their culture from selected and trained female zoes refer to as change champions. 3. Public ceremony to include several activities such as communal feasting, traditional singing and dancing, gift giving to the girls passing through the alternative rite of passage ritual, declarations by the women and girls that they have not been and will not be cut, and declarations by fathers, mothers and community leaders for their commitment to support abandonment of the FGM/C practice in Liberia.
